|The 2016 deadline for a Board of Review appeal is September 6th, 2016.
The Board of Review suggests that you speak to your township assessor with any specific questions about your assessed value change. The Board of Review appeal process begins the latter half of August for each assessment year and appeal forms can be obtained at the Board of Review office or by phone or by download:
Will County Board of Review
Will County Office Building
302 N. Chicago St.
Joliet, Illinois 60432
Phone: (815) 740-4648
The owner for each parcel of property must file a separate appeal unless the parcels are contiguous. Contiguous parcels may be on the same appeal provided they are of the same land use. The property identification number (P.I.N.) must be included along with the address of each parcel. The appeal form must be signed, have the mailing address of the owner, and a daytime telephone number where the appellant may be reached.
2016 RULES GOVERNING THE BOARD OF REVIEW
The Board of Review shall base its decision on the documented evidence presented by the appellant and the township assessor and their testimony. The Board of Review uses three methods of valuation that are standard in most appraisal organizations. These are Cost, Market, and Income approaches to value. While the Board of Review does not expect the general public to know the finer points of the appraisal business, if they reasonable believe that their property is not being assessed properly, or that its value is too high, then some method of comparison should be used to prove their case.
